Envy
Today I am feeling envious, which may indeed be one of the seven deadly sins but considering The Rapture has come and gone, I figure I’m safe.
Today I am feeling envious of Hal, an avid cyclist as well as a librarian. Hal is on sabbatical and currently in Europe attending an “un-conference” entitled Cycling for Libraries. This event takes 100 librarians from around the world on a bicycle tour from Copenhagen to Berlin. Hal found out about the conference via an email one day. I only wish I could have seen his face when he read it.
For Hal, this must be Nirvana. The only equivalent I could think of for myself is a cycling tour of French vineyards, led by the Australian men’s Olympic beach volleyball team.
You can follow Hal’s wondrous travels here on his great blog. Deadly sin loves company.
Oi! The guy in the foreground is on his cell phone – ain’t that illegal over there? And I thought librarians had no life?
That shot is in Copenhagen, before the start of the trip – clearly a rogue Dane, and not a librarian. It seems equally clear, as I sit here pecking at my laptop listening to the hockey game on the TV in the other room, that librarians have way more fun than me.
SO envious of Hal! If you can ever organize that IDEAL cycling tour of yours, please count me in!
On a different note, any tips on taking pictures while biking?
Hi Melanie! It would be a most excellent tour, wouldn’t it!! I’ll keep you posted.
As for taking pictures while riding, I always keep my camera in the same spot, right jersey pocket. It’s a light little point and shoot, so not too unwieldy. If I’m riding with other people I always wait until I’m at the back of the paceline to pull out the camera. I’ll drift back a bit and take a bunch of shots (keeping my left hand on the bars)… most of them will be crappy, but there’s generally one or two good ones. Every so often it’s nice to pull over and take some roadside shots too. Oh, and I never take pics during a race. I leave that to the pros. Hope that helps… Thanks for the note!
